Grandmother Celebrates Lotto Win
20 Oct 2006

A grandmother-of-nine is celebrating after the second big lottery win in the Black Country in less than a week.

Brenda Portch, 67, of Kingswinford, won £1.5m in Wednesday's draw on the same day she read about Bilston couple Irene and Ronald Jones' £9m win on Saturday.

Mrs Portch said her horoscope on Wednesday predicted she would have a win on a bingo or lottery ticket.

The retired health service telephone operator said she was thinking of buying a new house and car.

Cup of coffee ...

She said she was amazed she had won and had to ring her son to get him to check the numbers as she could not believe it.

But she had always believed she would win the lottery.

"I wanted to share the good news with all the family so I drove to see my daughter and her two sons.

"I then went to see one of my sisters, Denise, and we both went to our sister Dinkie's house where we celebrated, unbelievably, with a cup of coffee," she said.

Mrs Portch won with a set of randomly-chosen numbers.

She bought the ticket at Barnett Lane Post Office and News, Kingswinford.
