£5.5 Million Awaits Mystery Newcastle Lotto Winner
12 Jul 2006
National Lottery players in the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area are being urged to check and double-check their old Lotto tickets as someone is sitting on an amazing £5,526,247 jackpot prize and may not even know it.
The search is now on to locate the owner of the winning ticket who matched all six numbers in the Lotto draw on Saturday 17 June 2006 – the winning numbers for that draw were 25, 26, 33, 40, 41 and 47. The lucky ticket-holder has until 5.30pm on 14 December 2006 to come forward and make their claim.
If no-one comes forward with the winning ticket before the prize claim deadline, then the prize money, plus all the interest generated, will go to the Good Causes – adding to the £18.6 billion already raised through sales of lottery tickets since the launch of The National Lottery in November 1994.
A National Lottery spokesperson said: “We are desperate to find this ticket-holder and unite them with their winnings. This life-changing amount of money could really help make someone’s dreams a reality. We are urging everyone to check their tickets again and look in the pockets of their clothing, in their wallets, in bags and down the back of the sofa – someone out there could literally be sitting on a fortune! We have the champagne on ice and our fingers crossed that the lucky winner comes forward to claim their prize in time.”
To jog Lotto players’ memories, on 17 June 2006, An Unfinished Life starring Robert Redford and Jennifer Lopez had just opened at the cinema – while Nelly Furtado was topping the charts with Maneater. Closer to home, Newcastle Cricket Club fans were celebrating their victory against Hetton Lyons in the North East Premier League, and audiences at the Theatre Royal were enjoying a performance of War of the Roses.
