Camelot, the operator of the National Lottery, has smashed through its first year fund-raising target for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. It will announce tomorrow that it has raised ?16.3m, well ahead of its ?14m target.
Dianne Thompson, the chief executive of Camelot, said: "We are thrilled that sales of dedicated games in support of London 2012 have got off to such a strong start."
The National Lottery will eventually contribute up to ?1.5bn towards funding the infrastructure of the London 2012 Olympics. Nell McAndrew, the model, keeps her fingers crossed that this figure will be reached.
